Watson Discovery / watsonx Assistant Developer

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Watson Discovery / watsonx Assistant Developer to support the implementation of a Discovery-bot solution. This role will focus on configuring, integrating, and deploying IBM Watson services (Discovery + Assistant) to enable intelligent search and conversational interfaces for Marken’s business processes and knowledge base. You will collaborate with Cloud Engineers and ODM Developers already assigned to the
project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure and manage IBM Watson Discovery to ingest, enrich, and query Marken’s document repositories
  • Design, build, and maintain watsonx Assistant flows and dialog interactions
  • Integrate Discovery search results into conversational experiences
  • Collaborate with IBM Cloud engineers to ensure secure and performant deployment
  • Coordinate with business analysts to define user intents, dialog logic, and expected outcomes
  • Evaluate and tune NLU/NLP models for better response accuracy
  • Create fallback strategies and handle exceptions gracefully in the assistant
  • Document the setup and handover for long-term support and enhancements

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong hands-on experience with IBM Watson Discovery and watsonx Assistant (or previous Watson Assistant)
  • Experience building and deploying chatbots using IBM Cloud
  • Basic scripting or development knowledge (Node.js, Python, or Java) to support integration logic
  • Solid understanding of REST APIs and JSON
  • Good communication skills and ability to work directly with business stakeholders
  • Fluent in English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in life sciences or regulated industries (clinical, pharma, logistics)
  • Experience integrating assistants into web portals, mobile apps, or internal systems
  • Knowledge of Watson Orchestrate, Actions Runtime, or AI-powered search bots
  • Familiarity with other virtual assistant platforms (e.g., Dialogflow, Azure Bot Service) is a bonus
